WHEN:

2:00 pm

Monday February 15th,

WHERE:

Rochester Chamber of Commerce

220 South Broadway, Suite 100

Rochester MN, 55904

In the State of the Union address last month, the President announced a National Export Initiative with the goal of doubling U.S. exports over the next five years.  To meet that goal, the U.S. Department of Commerce is strengthening its export promotion activities and expanding access to credit, especially for small and mid-sized businesses that want to export.

Businesses throughout Minnesota see the impact that increased exports can have on their bottom line.  You should too!  Whether your business is large, small, or in between, an international presence is critical in an ever changing global economy.  At this summit you will learn from the Senator, US Commerce officials specializing in exports, and your colleagues who are already successfully exporting their products.  They will share resources that are available to companies wanting to begin or expand their export business.

Hope to see you there!

Klobuchar to Convene Summit on Minnesota's Export Potential

WHAT:

Large Minnesota companies like 3M and Cargill are well known for their international business success.  However, there are many small- and medium-sized Minnesota businesses that also have the potential to succeed in overseas markets.

On Monday morning in Rochester, U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar, will convene a summit on "A World of Opportunity: Promoting Export Success for Small and Medium-Sized Businesses."  The hearing will focus on how federal agencies can best help small/mid-sized businesses enter foreign markets and expand their international sales The hearing will focus on how federal agencies can best help small/mid-sized businesses enter foreign markets and expand their international sales.

Klobuchar serves as chair of the Senate Subcommittee on Competitiveness, Innovation and Export Promotion.

There is an untapped world market for U.S. businesses, especially for smaller businesses that have never considered exporting before.  More than 95% of the world's customers are located outside the U.S.  According to a recent survey, 30% of U.S. businesses that don't export indicate that they would consider exporting if they had more information about how to go about doing it.

Participants include:
